Soft Contact Lenses

Being an independent practitioner gives us access to all contact lenses available on the market. We fit and dispense all types of soft contact lenses: daily disposable, fortnightly, monthly and annual replacement contact lenses for use alongside your Spectacles

These lenses are available as single vision (to correct long or short sightedness), toric (to correct astigmatism) and multifocal (to correct both distance and near vision for people who need reading glasses). Coloured lenses are also available for those who wish to change their eye colour.

Hard Contact Lenses

We also fit hard, or Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP), contact lenses. These are used to correct sight in single vision, toric and multifocal formats as with soft lenses.

Specialist Contact Lenses

We fit specially designed RGP lenses to correct vision in people with certain eye conditions. Most commonly they are used for people who have Keratoconus, a condition that affects the shape of the cornea (the window at the front of the eye that a contact lens sits on). We also fit these specialist contact lenses in people who have had corneal grafts or eye injuries resulting in an irregular corneal shape.

Custom made soft prosthetic lenses can be fitted to improve the appearance of a damaged eye. These lenses are matched in colour to the other eye and hand painted to achieve a very realistic look. Occlusive lenses are used to prevent double vision. Again. they can be matched in colour to the other eye.

Myopia (Short sight) Control Contact Lenses

Myopia is increasing worldwide with some calling this a ‘myopia boom’.  In East Asia, 90% of Chinese teenagers and young adults are myopic. Prevalence has also doubled within a century in Europe and in Australian 12 year olds, it doubled between 2006 and 2011. This is a worrying public health issue, as short sight is connected with a number of more serious eye problems in later life such as retinal detachment, cataract, glaucoma & maculopathy. With every increase in myopia, the risk of developing these conditions increases. We expect that our children will live longer than us and we need to do all we can to preserve their vision.

We are proud that RN Roberts Opticians has been selected to be among the first opticians in the UK to have access to MiSight® 1 day, a new treatment to slow down the rate at which myopia progresses.

MiSight® 1 day lenses are daily disposable soft lenses that are worn for 10 hours each day with a new fresh pair being used every day. Scientific evidence shows that use of this therapy gives a good result in reducing the progression of myopia. They are soft and comfortable to wear and children adapt very quickly to them and often much quicker than adults! These lenses can usually be fitted to young children, but there are proven benefits regardless of the age of the child, although the earlier in the development of myopia, the greater the overall end result will be
